The matchday kicked off with FSV Mainz 05 hosting Borussia Monchengladbach. The final score was 4 – 0, Mainz grabbing the win. In one of the most interesting matches of matchday 22, RB Leipzig hosted Eintracht Frankfurt, the two teams facing each other for a top 4 spot. Bayern Munich are first, albeit only on goal difference, as Dortmund are on the same amount of points: 46. This loss puts Union Berlin one point in front of RB Leipzig, on 43. Freiburg are 5th, Frankfurt are 6th.
