World Cup in FIFA23

With only a few weeks until the World Cup kicks off in Qatar, EA Sports have finally released the details of the tournament’s integration in FIFA23 and in Ultimate Team in particular. You can check the video HERE.

Let’s dive right into it!

World Cup modes outside FUT

FIFA players will have the chance to take their favorite team to World Cup glory within the game, with different modes, similar to Kick-Off.

Other than picking your team and going all the way in single player or online tournaments, you will be able to play the gives day’s matches or even changing the participating teams with your own nation.

World Cup as a FUT promo

For previous tournaments, we had a World Cup mode inside Ultimate Team, this is not going to happen this time around. Instead, we are getting a huge promo, with a lot of content!

According to EA, we are getting: “a genuinely unique World Cup Ultimate Team experience, with a full season of daily content, including special player items, objectives and more!”

Limited-time Items in FUT

There is a new concept added to Ultimate Team, cards with an expiry date. Players selected in the 32 national teams that have qualified for the FIFA World Cup will receive limited-time special player cards starting from November 11 when you can claim your first World Cup Player Items when you log in and ending on December 23. According to the video, the cards will be removed on the 4th of January.

As far as we understand, these items will be available through packs, but also in Objectives and SBCs. Interesting to note that instead of having clubs, these players have their nation’s logo on the card. We will see how this influences chemistry.

These special cards can be used in normal matches, but also in different objectives(like Swaps).

WC End of Event Rewards

We are also getting End of Event rewards, based on these red items we discussed above.

You will be able to track the amount of World Cup Player items you earn during the World Cup menu within Ultimate Team. Seems we are getting a total of 10 levels to progress through.

Simply collect World Cup Player items to unlock rewards. These can be packs, player picks and coins. They will be redeemable from January 4th, when the limited-time items will get removed from your club. You will have one month to redeem these rewards.

Permanent World Cup themed cards

We also got a sneak peak into some of the permament cards that we are able to earn throughout the promo.

World Cup themed icons were already leaked, the first card is most definitely representing that. Marvel Heroes were also released, but we do not see this card type in this picture.

We also know of red cards being the limited time cards, while the orange cards are Man Of the Match cards.

Our guess is that these represent:

  • World Cup Path To Glory
  • Flashback World Cup Items
  • World Cup TOTGS & TOTKS

FIFA World Cup Swaps

Swaps are back! EA confirmed these in the video and it is looking to be the best one yet.

Starting November 11th, FUT Players will be able to earn Swaps tokens, that we can redeem for “FIFA World Cup Stars”, player picks and packs. Interesting how the Stars card design seems to be one of the above designs, but inverted.

EA have confirmed that the majority of World Cup FUT Swaps tokens will be available in online & offline Objectives that will completed using limited time World Cup cards.

World Cup Heroes

FUT World Cup Heroes will be available from November 11th, across two team releases, replacing the base hero items in packs, with users that pre-ordered before August 11th also receiving their FUT WC Hero on this date.
