It’s a bitter ending for some teams, after some exemplary runs. Bodo/Glimt, one of the revelations of the qualifying rounds, seemed to be on the right track, with a first leg victory over favorites, Dinamo Zagreb, however the Croats proved to be too strong to handle and demolished them 4-1. The other Dynamo, Kyiv, promised to offer us an exciting tie versus Benfica, however the Portuguese side dominated both legs.
On the other hand, Maccabi Haifa managed to qualify against all odds, as they have bean Red Star Belgrade at home and drew in Serbia. Qarabag’s fairytale also comes to an end, as they succumb to Czech side, Viktoria Plzen.
Another key fixture was the one between Rangers and PSV. After a first round draw, 2-2, Rangers managed to beat PSV in the Netherlands, thus securing their place in the groups of the Champions League. FC Kobenhavn’s first round victory proved to be enough, as they drew in Turkey against Trabzonspor.
For the eliminated teams however, it is not the end of the road, as they will be included into this years Europa League group stage.
