Manchester United’s attack: Arnautovic, Raul de Tomas or someone else?

As ManUtd’s first two matches couldn’t have gone any worse for them and the end of the transfer window rapidly approaching, it seems desperation is kicking in at Old Trafford. Cavani left on a free, Mason Greenwood is.. out, while Cristiano Ronaldo is hoping to leave for a UEFA Champions League club, it is understandable that Ten Hag will be sweating for a new Striker. Let’s analyze the names that have been brought up recently.

  1. Marko Arnautovic

Once described by Mark Hughes as an “outstanding talent”, Arnautovic did have his moments in the Premier League, both as a winger and as a Striker, both at Stoke and at West Ham. His somewhat bizarre transfer to Shanghai Port in 2019 seemed to have closed the door of the Premier League to the now 33 years old forward, but Manchester United do tend to buy older players to fill quick gaps. He did have a good season at Bologna, but it seemed ManUtd pulled out of the transfer, due to “private concerns”.

We at Generation:Football believe that contrary to popular opion, he’d do an OK job on the short term, chances are Arnautovic is not joining the Red Devils. Would be a 5/10 transfer though.

2. Raul de Tomas

Top Premier League fanatics might be going “Who?” and “Why are we spending €30m on him?”, but truth to be told, RDT is one of the best Spanish Strikers at the moment and he is probably going to Qatar for the World Cup in November. Former Real Madrid youth product, he has been linked to his former club, Barcelona and even Atletico Madrid and scored 17 goals in La Liga last season. Having played at Benfica before Espanyol, Raul de Tomas is now 27 years old, still having his peak years ahead of him.

Would be a 7/10 transfer.

3. Jamie Vardy

Vardy getting cancelled in 3..2..1..

Where did this come from? Well the story seems to have originated from The Athletic, who have been very reliable this summer, but truth to be told, no one bothered to check the source after the initial shock, which blew everyone away. If we said Arnautovic is proven in the Prem, we need to specify that Vardy has been one of the best forwards in the league over the last few years. From Leicester’s miracle Premier League win, to scoring double digits in the last 7(SEVEN) PL seasons, he is a legend of the league. Still, he is 35 years old and Leicester are having a very slow transfer window, so he wouldn’t join the ten Hag army on a cheap.

Still, crazier things have happened and the English Striker has only one year left on his contract, so we believe Vardy to Manchester United would be a 8/10 transfer.

4. Mauro Icardi

Sometimes clubs “dodge a bullet” with certain failed transfers and I believe many top European clubs feel this way towards Wanda Nara’s boyfriend(husband?, ex boyfriend?, ex husband?, honestly stopped caring after the 20th scandal). The Argentinian, now 29 is definitely a top Striker on his day, but no one knows whether he’ll have any more of those days. Once an idol on the San Siro Stadium, Icardi went from scandal to scandal, so it’s only fitting that he ended up for a few years and Europe’s new Hollywood FC, PSG.

With no more room for him at the Parc des Princes, he is definitely on the lookout for a new club, but we believe he wouldn’t be more than a 4/10 transfer for ManUtd. They just need any more scandal at the moment.

So what are your thoughts? Is Vardy going to start the party at the Old Trafford? Does Ronaldo’s sister need to meet Wanda to fix the World’s problems? Who does Manchester United need?
