World Cup Qatar 2022 – Group Stage – Day 9

The second round of the group stage at the World Cup is over! One more round and we are on to the knockouts. Let’s see what happened on day 9 in Qatar!

E. M. Choupo-Moting 66′
S. Pavlovic 45′
S. Milinkovic-Savic 45′
A. Mitrovic 53′

Serbia: S. Mitrovic 56′, S. Babic 78′, N. Radonjic 78′, M. Grujic 78′, F. Djuricic 90′

One of the best matches of the tournament, Cameroon and Serbia traded blows across the 90 minutes. Cameroon opened the scoring, only for Serbia to score 3 in a row. Cameroon did not give up and they managed to equalize. It was an even match, 2.29 versus 1.88 xG clearly shows that the teams were evenly matches. They also have the same amount of points, 1. Too early to talk about chances, Brazil to face Switzerland later on, however Cameroon is playing versus the Selecao in the last match.

South Korea2Ghana3
Group H
Cho Gue-Sung 58′, 61′M. Salisu 24′
M. Kudus 34′, 68′

Subs
South Korea: Na Sang-Ho 46′, Lee Kang-In 57′, Hwang Ui-Jo 78′, Kwon Kyung-Won 90′
Ghana: K. Sulemana 78′, D. Kyereh 78′, D. Odoi 78′, A. Djiku 83′, A. Baba 88′

Another immense game! Ghana went 2 goals up, only for South Korea and Cho Gue-Song to equalize in 3 minutes. Ajax’s Kudus scored his second and Ghana’s third to put the African ahead again and even though Korea tried everything, they just couldn’t score the equalizer. Korea remains on 1 point and they are to play against Portugal in the last round, while Ghana(3 points) will play Uruguay.

Group G

Subs
Brazil: Rodrygo 46′, Bruno Guimaraes 58′, G. Jesus 73′, Antony 73′, A. Telles 86′
Switzerland: R. Steffen 58′, E. Fernandes 58′, H. Seferovic 76′, M. Aebischer 76′, F. Frei 86′

Brazil has been the better side throughout the match, but it took them 83 minutes to get their goal versus an inform Sommer and Swiss defense. Switzerland were content with defending and they finished the match with 0 shots on target, just like Serbia did versus Brazil. The Selecao are through, with a goal difference of +3, so unless something miraculous happens, they will finish top of the group. Switzerland needs a draw versus Serbia in the last round.

Portugal2Uruguay
Group H
B. Fernandes 54′, 90′(p)

Subs
Portugal: R. Guerreiro 42′, R. Leao 69′, Matheus Nunes 82′, G. Ramos 82′, J. Palhinha 82′,
Uruguay: G. de Arrascaeta 62′, F. Pellistri 62′, M. Gomez 72′, L. Suarez 72′, M. Vina 86′

Was not the best game of the tournament. Portugal were the better side, from the start of the game, Uruguay looked weak once again. The South Americans only managed to get close to scoring after some individual brilliance or some error from the Portuguese defense. Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring in the second half, with a goal which was initially attributed to Cristiano Ronaldo. Later on, Bruno added another from a penalty. This win puts the Europeans on 6 goals and they are through to the next round. Ghana, South Korea and Uruguay can still go through.
