The third full squad for Regional Dream Teams is here and it is exquisite! Meet Dream Team: Asia and Oceania, as voted by you, fellow football fans!
Before we start, we would like to send our prayers to Turkey and Syria, after the horrible earthquake that happened this week.
The squad
Goalkeepers
Mathew Ryan | 30 | AZ(NED) | Australia |
Giorgi Mamardashvili | 22 | Valencia(ESP) | Georgia |
Hossein Hosseini | 30 | Esteghlal(IRN) | Iran |
Unsurprisingly, Valencia’s Mamardashvili gets the most votes for the GK spot in Asia. He had a meteoric rise this season and has been great for his club, despite them not doing so well. Matt Ryan got second place in the voting, despite being a reserve at AZ, while Hosseini got 3rd. Surprisingly Turkey’s #1, Cakir did not make the cut.
Defenders
Takehiro Tomiyasu | 24 | Arsenal(ENG) | Japan |
Zeki Celik | 25 | AS Roma(ITA) | Turkey |
Ko Itakura | 25 | Gladbach(GER) | Japan |
Hiroki Ito | 23 | Stuttgart(GER) | Japan |
Min-Jae Kim | 26 | Napoli(ITA) | South Korea |
Merih Demiral | 24 | Atalanta(ITA) | Turkey |
Maya Yoshida | 34 | Schalke 04(GER) | Japan |
Milad Mohammadi | 29 | AEK(GRE) | Iran |
Liberato Cacace | 22 | Empoli(ITA) | New Zealand |
Admitedly not as impressive as the South American or African defense line, we do have some good players, albeit the positions are a bit unbalanced. We have two good right backs, while the left side seems a bit weaker. We don’t have a lot of depth at centre back either, however we do have Napoli’s Kim who is the star of the show, while the likes of Demiral are also very good.
Midfielders
Hakan Calhanoglu | 28 | Inter(ITA) | Turkey |
Orkan Kokcu | 22 | Feyenoord(NED) | Turkey |
Salih Ozcan | 25 | Dortmund(GER) | Turkey |
Kang In Lee | 21 | Mallorca(ESP) | South Korea |
Daichi Kamada | 26 | Frankfurt(GER) | Japan |
Wataru Endo | 29 | Stuttgart(GER) | Japan |
A decent selection of midfielders, however a bit on the unbalanced side, as we have more attacking than defensive options. We have 6 very good players though, with the 3 Turkish players, Mallorca CAM, Kang In Lee and the two Japanese players from the Bundesliga.
Attackers
Take Kubo | 21 | Real Sociedad(ESP) | Japan |
Cengiz Under | 25 | Marseille(FRA) | Turkey |
Kvicha Kvaratskhelia | 21 | Napoli(ITA) | Georgia |
Kaoru Mitoma | 25 | Brighton(ENG) | Japan |
Son Heung-min | 30 | Tottenham(ENG) | South Korea |
Mehdi Taremi | 30 | Porto(POR) | Iran |
Hee-chan Hwang | 26 | Wolves(ENG) | South Korea |
Enes Unal | 25 | Getafe(ESP) | Turkey |
Unbalance is the name of the game once more, as we have 3 excellent left wingers, 2 good right wingers and a couple of good strikers too. Kvaratskhelia, Son and Mitoma are lightning up the top European leagues, as usual, so we had to go from 3 players from the same position.
Starting 11
Yes, we might have went a bit too creative on this one, but it’s all for good fun.
Not a lot to talk about the defense, a strong, solid backline and a very good goalkeeper.
Midfield is where the magic happens! We have decided to go for a double pivot based in Turkey, Kokcu and Calhanoglu. Calhanoglu is undoubtedly the star of the show, however there is not a lot to seperate Feyenoord’s Kokcu and Dortmund’s Ozcan, however we have decided to go with the former.
In front of them we have a very in-form duo in Kvara and Mitoma. Even though both left wingers by main position, we believe they could co-exist in a 4-2-2-2, with the duo changing positions from time to time.
In attack we have another left winger in Tottenham’s son and Iranian Taremi. We know Son does the job in partnership with Kane, so we have decided to stick him upfront. Who knows, it might work!
This is the third team for Regional Dream Teams. Who would you add to the squad? Is our starting 11 too exotic? Who would make the starting 11 in your point of view?
