My UCL Fantasy team – Matchday 5

Back with another Champions League Fantasy team check! Without getting into too much detail, last round was awful for the team.

Pep decided to rest Haaland, Bayern didn’t use Musiala or Gnabry and Neres didn’t play for Benfica. Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong. Can only go up from here… Right?

Who to replace?

Well this was one already decided for me, as I have 2 unavailable players:

  • Verratti – suspended
  • Reece James – injured

Courtois is back for Real Madrid, so Lunin would be an obvious one to replace, but once again I am prioritizing outfield players.

Who to add?

As usual, we are checking the fixtures. This time around, we don’t only need “easy” fixtures, as some teams are already qualified, but rather teams who play lesser opposition AND need a win. So we are going with:

  • Inter – Viktoria Plzen

Yep, that’s the only one for me, this week. Inter need a win at home, against strugglers Viktoria in order to go through(and eliminate Barcelona). Even if there is a chance of pressure getting into Interistas’ head, in my eyes, this should be the clearest match.

As I’ve replaced a midfielder and a defender, I need to pick up players from the same position. The first choice is quite clear for me, it has to be Hakan Çalhanoğlu. He has the most points for Inter in UCL fantasy and he has generally been impactful, with great performances, even against Barcelona. The second option might a bit more risky given the competition for the wingback spots, however, I have chosen Federico Dimarco. The 24 years old Italian player seems to be cementing himself as Inter’s most reliable wingback.

Final Squad

Adjusting the team based on the game dates, this is what we have! Looks OK to me, but the UEFA Champions League is always unpredictable.

Thoughts? Can we get back to winning points?
