Premier League XI versus La Liga XI

Recently there has been a lot of talk on social media about a potential show match between All Star Premier League and La Liga Teams. Even though we consider the chances of this happening quite slim, as there are already way too many games in the calendar, we thought it would be fun to play around with the thought! Below you can find the teams we built for the two top leagues!

Premier League XI

For the GK spot, we believe the choice is pretty clear. Alisson is most probably going to be the starting GK for Brazil at the World Cup and he is a world class keeper.

For the defense, we have recently asked people on Twitter who do they consider the best right back in the World right now and even though we didn’t get a lot of answers, the consensus is that it’s Reece James, an all-round player.

For the CB spots, we went with the safe options, Ruben Dias and Van Dijk. There is a lot of quality in the Prem for this position, but players like Lisandro, Koulibaly or Fofana still have a long way to go in order to prove themselves to be better than this pair.

For the left back spot, we have went for Cancelo. He might not be Portugal’s first choice for any of the fullbacks spots anymore, but he was the Prem’s best left back, last season and he is a baller.

In the middle we went for a diamond midfield. City’s Rodry is considered by many to be the best CDM in the world and Casemiro is yet to prove himself at Man United. Fabinho would be another decent option and we cannot forget Rice either. For the CAM spot, there is no debate, it’s Kevin de Bruyne.

On the two wings we have two offensive players, which could prove to be problematic, but that’s the manager’s job to solve, not ours. Salah on the right is hard to look past, even if he had a slow start to the season. Arsenal’s Saka would be another option and so would Bernardo Silva.

On the left side we picked Son, he has a great connection with Kane and has a very good work rate on the pitch, which is a must in this case.

As for the attack, once again, there is no debate. At the moment Harry Kane and Erling Haaland are the best strikers in the Premier League and they are most likely going to end up in the top 2 spots in the Top Scorer chart as well.

La Liga XI

OK, we believe this starting 11 might cause some controversy, we have went with a more balanced team, instead of picking 5 players from Barcelona and 6 from Real Madrid.

In goal, we don’t think there is a debate, Courtois has been the best GK in the world in the past season. Oblak and Ter Stegen are both great keepers, but at the moment the Belgian is simply the best.

For the right back position, we believe there is a lack of quality in La Liga at the moment. Carvajal would have been an easy choice, but he had some questionable performances against top wingers last season. We have went with Marcos Llorente, but we could have went with Foyth as well, a great defender from Villareal.

For the two CB spots, it was once again a very hard choice. Both Real Madrid and Barcelona have a very good pack of CBs, but we believe Kounde provides that extra spark with his immaculate passing. Pau Torres is the best Spanish CB at the moment, he gets in as well. We know we snubbed Alaba, Rudiger, Eder Militao, Araujo and Gimenez. These are our picks though!

For the left back spot, we have picked another Spaniard! Ferland Mendy would have been the safest choice most probably, but we have decided to add Valencia’s Gaya. We consider the Valencia player to be better than Jordi Alba at the moment.

In midfield we went with 4 midfielders. Real Madrid’s new signing, Aurelian Tchouameni has been the revelation of the season, he has been playing like one of the best CDMs in the world. Right in front of him, we have Spanish golden boy, Pedri. We know this will cause a lot of controversy, with names like Modric or Kroos around, however there is was just no way we can snub the Spanish starlet in a Spanish league team.

On the right we will use recent La Liga POTM winner, Federico Valverde. He will give a lot of balance to the team. He gets in over Raphinha or Dembele, due to his recent form and his ability to track back. We also think it would be funny to see Llorente and Valverde running down the right non-stop.

On the left we have picked Vinicius Jr. We believe there is not a lot of debate to be had here, he scored in the UCL final and will probably finish top 5 in the Balon d’or race.

Same goes for the striker position, Benzema will most likely win the Balon d’or this year, while Lewandowski is the best goal scorer in the last few years. This pairing is the best in the world.

Do you agree with our picks? Furthermore, who would win?
