Manchester City opened the round with a win against relegation candidates Leicester, 1-0. After recent struggles, Tottenham finally won a match, beating Bournemouth in a very tense game, 2-3. Fellow London based side Chelsea, lost the Potter Derby in a shocking fashion, 4-1, meanwhile the team from the other side of London, Arsenal, beat Notthingham in a convincing fashion, 5-0. The surprise of the round came from Anfield, as Leeds beat Liverpool, 1-2. This was van Dijk’s first loss at Anfield! In the last match of the round, Man Utd beat West Ham 1-0.

Standings

With both Arsenal and Man City winning, the first two spots on the table are staying put for now, things are getting more interesting from the 3rd downwards. Spurs are currently 3rd, however with Man Utd’s game in hand, they could move to the podium. Newcastle are also just 2 points off Spurs. Chelsea, with only 2 points in the last 3 games still have chances of a top 4 mid-season finish. Forest are last, one point behind Wolves, 2 points behind Leicester and 3 behind the group of Southamption, Villa and Leeds.

Not a good week for the top Madrid sides, as Atletico Madrid lost to Cadiz in a 3-2 thriller, while Real Madrid dropped points against Girona on Sunday. FC Barcelona on the other hand, did win the match against Valencia, even if they scored the match’s only goal in stoppage time. Sevilla are back to their old ways, this time they lost to Rayo. In the matches for European places, Athletic beat Villareal 1-0, while Betis downed Sociedad 2-0. Elche versus Getafe CF to be played today, on October the 31st.


Standings

Real Madrid are still first, but their lead is only 1 point, thanks to their second draw of the season. After their shock exit from the UCL, Barcelona are back on track and they managed to build an 8 point lead over 3rd placed Atletico. Betis, La Real and Athletic round the top 5 up. Sevilla are in the relegation zone again, having 10 points, same as 4 other teams, Girona, Getafe and Cadiz. Elche are last with only 4 points and they look destined to go down.

Bayern Munchen are truly back to their old dominating ways, as they destroy Mainz 05, 6-2. RB Leipzig also continue their decent for under manager, Marco Rose, as they beat Xabi Alonso’s struggling Leverkusen 2-0. Eintracht Frankfurt put up a fight against Borussia Dortmund, but Dortmund won 2-1 at the end. Union Berlin had a tricky game versus Gladbach and they managed to win thanks to a goal in the stoppage time.


Standings

Thanks to their last minute heroics, Union Berlin maintain their first place, at least for the moment. They have one more point than 2nd placed Bayern Munchen and two more than Freiburg. Dortmund managed to climb to 4th, closely followed by Frankfurt and RB Leipzig. It’s trourble for Bayer Leverkusen once more, as they sit 16th out of 18 teams. Bochum are 17, only followed by Schalke 04, who are starting to look desperate, with only 6 points from 12 matches.

Spalletti’s Napoli continue their amazing start of the season, with a clear win versus Sassuolo. The Old Lady finally managed to string 3 wins together, as they beat Lecce 1 to 0. After last week’s setback, Atalanta are also back to winning ways, beating Empoli. Mixed results for the Milan sides, as Inter put 3 past Sampdoria, however Milan lost in Torino, versus the smaller club of the city. Rome also didn’t have the best of times, as Lazio surprisingly lost to Salernitana at home. Verona versus Roma to be played today, 31st of October.


Standings

Despite having a very good start themselves, Atalanta are now 5 points off leaders, Napoli. Can Spalletti’s boys win their first Serie A title after 1990? Both Milan and Lazio lost, they are now 3rd and 4th., followed by Inter and Juventus. If Mourinho’s Roma win today, they are moving into the top 4, as things are very close among the European places. Cremonese and Verona are 19th and 20th, both with 5 points. Sampdoria is also in the relegation zone, with 6 points.

The first two teams, Lens and PSG both won their games, with Messi being in top form for the Parisians once more. On the other hand, Marseille continue their bad run of games, as they only managed a draw against Strasbourg, 2-2. Lorient, previously having lost only 1 game, lost to Nice, removing them from the podium. In the last match of the round, Lyon beat Lille, 1-0.


Standings

The Parisians are first, with a comfortable lead of 5 points, in front of Lens. Rennes are 3rd, having won their last 5 games. Lorient are 4th, followed by Marseille, AS Monaco, Lille and Lyon. In the other side of the table we have Angers and Ajaccio on 8 points each. Brest and Strasbourg and 17th and 18th with 10 points each. Also worth checking out the top players based on G/A in Ligue 1!
