My UCL Fantasy team – Matchday 1

As the new UEFA Champions League season rapidly approaches, we thought it would be a nice and fun idea to talk about the players we will be picking up for ourselves in UCL Fantasy. Generation:Football is by no means an expert in fantasy football, but as big fans of the sport, it is only natural that we partake in this interesting competition.

First of all, if you still didn’t join our UCL Fantasy league, join HERE.

Secondly, here is the team we will be rocking with:

First thing’s first, I wanted to get an expensive Striker and make him captain. Some of the options here were Benzema, Lewandowski or Mbappe, but I truly believe Man City have a very easy group, plus Haaland has been in amazing form this season, so I went with the Norwegian.

I also went with two players who have relatively easy matches in the first round, Werner and Neres. Even though Werner is quite expensive at 8mil, I think Shakhtar should be easy to beat this time around. Benfica are playing Maccabi, shouldn’t be a hard fixture.

For midfielders, I tried going with players from teams who have easy fixtures in the first round. Dortmund face Kobenhavn, having 2 midfielders who usually score a lot of goals for them seemed like the smart choice. Barcelona start their campaign agains Plzen and Pedri is in good form, so he’ll wait on the bench until Wednesday.

Even though Tchouameni is a CDM, he has great statistics for Real Madrid this season, went with him for the long run, as Los Blancos have a relatively easy group as well. Gnabry is always amazing in group stages, want to keep him in the team for a long time as well.

In the same vein, got Davies at the back, planning on keeping him for the whole group stage, he and his team are big favorites in a tough group. Alaba and James have easy first games, plus they are players who often have goal contributions.

Barca’s pair of Araujo and Kounde seemed like a smart choice for matchday 1, given they are going to be facing Plzen. Kounde also provided 2 assists in the weekend, so maybe he can do the same type of magic in the UCL.

For goalkeepers, it’s simple, I went with 2 keepers who play on different day. Courtois plays on Tuesday, Mignolet on Wednesday. If Courtois doesn’t perform, I have a feeling Mignolet can have a good game against Leverkusen and he is only 4.5mil.
