Top 45 transfers of the summer – Players under €50mil

Welcome to another article in which we review the best transfers of the summer. We have already discussed the best free transfers, the best transfers over 50 million and now we will analyize the best transfers that cost less than €50 million.

As this summer has been crazy with transfers, we have decided that instead of creating a top 10, we will rank the best transfers from each league separately. Be aware, as there was a huge discrepancy in spending, there is also a huge discrepancy in the number of players we show from each league.

Let’s start off with a Bayern trio!

Sadio Mane

Price: €32milNationality: Senegal
Age: 30Position: LW/ST
From: LiverpoolTo: Bayern Munchen

Hard to look past Mane, when talking about the best transfers of the summer. A world class player, at his prime, one of Liverpool’s main attackers in the last 5 years. He is fast, has great technique, great passing and shooting. Also a genuine, nice guy off the pitch. Already scoring 3 goals in 5 apps, Mane is a bargain and he is most probably going to succeed at the Allianz Arena.

Ryan Gravenberch

Price: €18.5milNationality: Holland
Age: 20Position: CM
From: AjaxTo: Bayern Munchen

Another Bayern player on the list. Gravenberch is most definitely not on the level of Mane, however the fact that Bayern managed to get the Dutch midfielder for only 18.5mil is remarkable, in today’s market. Nowadays midfielders of similar quality to Ryan cost 3, 4 times as much. Bayern has lots of options in midfield, but Gravenberch is set to shine for a long time in Bavaria.

Mathys Tel

Price: €20milNationality: France
Age: 17Position: CF
From: Stade RennaisTo: Bayern Munchen

17 years old French talent, Mathys Tel also joined Bayern Munchen, coming from Stade Rennais.

Fellow Bundesliga teams, Dortmund and RB Leipzig were also busy this summer.

Karim Adeyemi

Price: €30milNationality: Germany
Age: 20Position: RW/ST
From: RB SalzburgTo: Borussia Dortmund

We might as well rename this list to the Top 10 Bundesliga transfers. Reportedly, Adeyemi was wanted by some of the biggest European clubs, but he ultimately decided to join Dortmund, who were desperate to replace the departing Haaland with more than one attacker. Struggling with injuries, Adeyemi is yet to make a huge impact, but we are sure he will do wonders at Dortmund.

Nico Schlotterbeck

Price: €20milNationality: Germany
Age: 22Position: CB
From: SC FreiburgTo: Borussia Dortmund

While the jury is still out on Nico Schlotterbeck, this is a very interesting transfer by Dortmund. As I’ve mentioned before, Dortmund’s plan is to create a strong and stable Centre Back partnership with Sule and Schlotterbeck, who are more than likely going to be Germany’s starting CBs in a few years. If both of them can be remain fit, Dortmund can have a very strong foundation at the back.

Sebastian Haller

Price: €31milNationality: Cote d’Ivoire
Age: 28Position: ST
From: AjaxTo: Borussia Dortmund

Ajax’s top goalscorer last season, Haller is currently out with a long term injury.

Timo Werner

Price: €20milNationality: German
Age: 26Position: ST
From: Chelsea FCTo: RB Leipzig

We are fully aware that RB Leipzig are having an abhorrent start of the season, even manager Tedesco being sacked, but we still believe Werner is a top signing for both RB Leipzig and the Bundesliga. While he was often criticized(rightly so) for missing easy chances, we all know what’s Werner capable of. Already capped more than 50 times by Germany, Werner left Leipzig just 2 seasons ago, having scored 100 goals for the German side.

Former Dortmund and Bayern player…

Robert Lewandowski

Price: €45milNationality: Poland
Age: 34Position: ST
From: Bayern MunchenTo: FC Barcelona

We are moving from the Bundesliga to La Liga and that’s exactly what Robert Lewandowski did as well. Just turned 34 years old, the Polish Striker might be considered by some to be past his prime, but he has made an instant impact in La Liga, leading the Top Goalscorers list. Players of this class fit in with their new clubs instantly.

Tanguy Nianzou

Price: €16milNationality: France
Age: 20Position: CB
From: Bayern MunchenTo: Sevilla FC

Read more about Nianzou’s transfer: HERE

Marcao

Price: €12milNationality: Brazil
Age: 26Position: CB
From: GalatasarayTo: Sevilla FC

Two Centre Backs out, two Centre Backs in for Lopetegui’s squad. Marcao has been a stable part of Galata’s defense for 3 seasons now, remains to be seen whether he can make the step up to a much better league.

Nahuel Molina

Price: €20milNationality: Argentina
Age: 24Position: RB
From: Udinese CalcioTo: Atletico Madrid

Simeone’s side lacked a proper Right Back for quite some time, even having to resort to using the likes of Marcos Llorente in that position. Whether Molina can make that position his own or not, remains to be seen. So far he featured in 2 games as a starter.

Next stop, Ligue 1! PSG rebuilt their midfield, while Rennais also made moves.

Vitinha

Price: €41.5milNationality: Portugal
Age: 22Position: CM
From: FC PortoTo: PSG

PSG basically switched up it’s whole midfield, except Verratti. They have sold Paredes, Gueye, Rafinha, Xavi Simons, Wijnaldum and Herrera. They’ve brought in Vitinha, Renato Sanches, Fabian Ruiz and Carlos Soler. Although all 4 are extremely good transfers in their own rights, we will mention all 4 below, Vitinha is the one to make the biggest impact so far, as he has been in the starting 11 in all but one game so far, always partnering Verratti.

Three more midfielders for PSG…

Renato Sanches

Price: €15milNationality: Portugal
Age: 24Position: CM
From: LOSC LilleTo: PSG

Despire only 24, Renato has already played for the likes of Bayern Munchen, Benfica and now PSG. Considered a top Portuguese talent, he was key for Lille in the last 3 seasons, whenever fit.

Fabian Ruiz

Price: €23milNationality: Spain
Age: 26Position: CM
From: NapoliTo: PSG

Probably the biggest name out of the four new midfielders, Fabian Ruiz spent 4 seasons at Napoli and he was always on the radar of Spanish giants: Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. With one year remaining on his contract, Napoli decided to cash out on him.

Carlos Soler

Price: €18milNationality: Spain
Age: 25Position: CM
From: FC ValenciaTo: PSG

Similar to Fabian Ruiz, Soler had only one year left on his contract. He was one of Valencia’s key players in the last few seasons.

Amine Gouiri

Price: €28milNationality: France
Age: 22Position: ST
From: OGC NieceTo: Stade Rennais

Gouiri, reportedly on the radar of clubs such as Real Madrid, ultimately joined Stade Rennais for almost 30mil. A young French forward, with a lot of talent, he still has time to get that big signing of his.

Let’s check out what were the Italian clubs up to.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

Price: €10milNationality: Georgia
Age: 21Position: LW
From: Dinamo BatumiTo: SSC Napoli

While it might look reactionary adding such a low profile signing, such as Kvaratskhelia to Napoli, the Georgian has been a huge revelation at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. A tricky Left Winger, with great shooting, the forward has already scored 4 goals in 5 games in Serie A.

Jeremie Boga

Price: €22milNationality: Cote d’Ivoire
Age: 25Position: LW
From: SassuoloTo: Atalanta BC

Even though Boga already spent the last 6 months on loan at Atalanta, we thought it would be a good idea to mention him, as the 22mil paid for him is one of the biggest transfers in Serie A this summer. The right footed Left Winger is finding it hard to cement his place in Atalanta’s starting 11 however, as he has played only 2 games so far this season.

Filip Kostic

Price: €24milNationality: Serbia
Age: 29Position: LM
From: Eintracht FrankfurtTo: Juventus

Bremer

Price: €41milNationality: Brazil
Age: 25Position: CB
From: TorinoTo: Juventus

Regarding this Juventus duo, please read more: HERE

Charles De Ketelaere

Price: €32milNationality: Belgium
Age: 21Position: CAM/RW
From: BruggeTo: AC Milan

As Belgium’s golden generation will have it’s last shot at the World Cup this winter, it is reassuring for the European country that players such as De Ketelaere are coming through the ranks. The young, left footed Belgian, can play both on the right and in the middle and will surely provide a lot of danger for Milan’s opponents with his passing, dribbling, physicality and shooting.

Finally it is time for the league that spent the most, by far, the Premier League!

Tyrell Malacia

Price: €15milNationality: Holland
Age: 23Position: LB
From: FeyenoordTo: Manchester United

Reportedly, Malacia was close to agreeing a move to Lyon in the summer. Man Utd however swooped in, agreed upon a fee of almost €15mil plus add-ons with Feyenoord and ten Haag personally managed to convince the young Dutch fullback to opt for the Old Trafford. Already being an undisputed starter in Luke Shaaw’s position, shows how good this transfer could be for the Red Devils in the long run.

Sven Botman

Price: €37milNationality: Holland
Age: 22Position: CB
From: LOSC LilleTo: Newcastle United

Newcastle has been after Botman for quite some time and they finally got their man! 1.95 meters tall, Botman is a solid, left footed defender. Yet to play a game for the Dutch national team, he is surely going to be a reliable option next to the likes of van Dijk, de Ligt or de Vrij in the near future.

Kalidou Koulibaly

Price: €38milNationality: Senegal
Age: 31Position: CB
From: NapoliTo: Chelsea FC

One of, if not the best Centre Backs in Serie A over the last decade, it was always in the air that Koulibaly would move to an even bigger club than Napoli. There were rumous of huge offers from Europe’s elite, but president De Laurentiis always rejected those. Until now that is… At 31, Koulibaly still has a lot to offer to Chelsea, however it is clear that the London Blues are having a bad start of the season. Rebuilding a team in and out of the pitch is a hard task.

Speaking of Chelsea…

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Price: €12milNationality: Gabon
Age: 33Position: ST
From: FC BarcelonaTo: Chelsea

A Deadline Day signing, Aubameyang is the Striker that Tuchel wanted as his number 9, after the departures of Lukaku and Werner! Life comes at you fast though..

At the moment it’s obviously unclear how will Tuchel’s departure affect Auba, but the Gabonese Striker still looks like a great buy for 12mil plus the unwanted Marcos Alonso.

American revolution at Leeds

Brenden Aaronson

Price: €33milNationality: USA
Age: 21Position: CAM
From: RB SalzburgTo: Leeds United

Brenden Aaronson, the second most expensive American football(soccer?) transfer ever, seems to be the centre piece of Jesse Marsch’s project at Leeds. Spent last season at Salzburg, where he was a key player. He is fast, has great vision and a very good shot. Despite his age, he was already capped 22 times by the US of A.

Tyler Adams

Price: €17milNationality: USA
Age: 23Position: CDM
From: RB LeipzigTo: Leeds United

Tyler Adams, the third most expensive American football(soccer!) transfer ever already worked with Jesse Marsch at RB Leipzig, it was just a matter of time for him to join his former manager at Leeds.

Now a Wolves special!

Gonzalo Guedes

Price: €32.6milNationality: Portugal
Age: 25Position: LW
From: Valencia CFTo: Wolves

Matheus Nunes

Price: €45milNationality: Portugal
Age: 23Position: CM
From: Sporting CPTo: Wolves

Both top signings, both will fit in well at Wolves. Both Portuguese of course, as super agent, Jorge Mendes’ influence is still visible at the Molineux. The team however had a rocky start of the season, so it is probably too early to judge these two signings.

And one for Man City..

Manuel Akanji

Price: €17.5milNationality: Switzerland
Age: 27Position: CB
From: Borussia DortmundTo: Manchester City

Erling Haaland wasn’t the only Dortmund player to join Manchester City this summer, as math genius, Manuel Akanji also got transferred to the Etihad. Remains to be seen what Guardiola’s plans are with the Swiss international, as he has an abundance of talent for the CB spot.

Sergio Gomez

Price: €13milNationality: Spain
Age: 22Position: LB
From: AnderlechtTo: Manchester City

You can read more on Sergio Gomez’s transfer: HERE

Two for Arsenal…

Oleksandr Zinchenko

Price: €35milNationality: Ukraine
Age: 25Position: LB
From: Man CityTo: Arsenal

Arsenal didn’t have a lot of luck with Left Backs in the past few years, so they have decided to bet on Man City’s Zinchenko. Good in the attack, the Ukrainian was mostly Cancelo’s reserve last season, but he is most definitely ready to assume the role of a starter in a big team, such as Arsenal.

Fabio Vieira

Price: €35milNationality: Portugal
Age: 22Position: CAM
From: FC PortoTo: Arsenal

Another attacking midfielder to join Arteta’s side, Vieira has his whole career ahead of him. Left footed, can be used as a CAM, Central Mid, or even on the right wing.

Two for Villa…

Leander Dendoncker

Price: €15milNationality: Belgium
Age: 27Position: CDM
From: WolvesTo: Aston Villa

Having joined Wolves only 3 seasons ago, it was time for Dendoncker to move on. The towering midfielder will join Gerrard’s Aston Villa. Capped 29 times by Belgium, Dendoncker is a solid Premier League midfielder.

Diego Carlos

Price: €31milNationality: Brazil
Age: 29Position: CB
From: Sevilla FCTo: Aston Villa

And to conclude the Prem, a West Ham quintet!

Lucas Paqueta

Price: €43milNationality: Brazil
Age: 25Position: CAM
From: LyonTo: West Ham

Gianluca Scamacca

Price: €36milNationality: Italy
Age: 23Position: CAM
From: LyonTo: West Ham

Scamacca, almost 2 meters tall had a very good season last time around, playing for Sassuolo, so it was just a matter of time until a bigger team came knocking. David Moyes’ West Ham managed to pick him up.

Nayef Aguerd

Price: €43milNationality: Morocco
Age: 26Position: CAM
From: Stade RennaisTo: West Ham

26 years old Moroccan defender is currently ranked as the 2nd most valued player from his country, only behind Achraf Hakimi and in front of players like Mazraoui or Hakim Ziyech. Having spent the last 2 seasons at Stade Rennais, he has decided to join up with David Moyes at West Ham.

Emerson

Price: €15.4milNationality: Italy
Age: 28Position: LB
From: ChelseaTo: West Ham

Emerson was loaned out to Lyon last August, however we shouldn’t forget that there was a time when he was a reliable option at Chelsea, for the wing back spot. A Euro 2020 winners, Emerson can play an important part at London Stadium.

Maxwel Cornet

Price: €21milNationality: Cote d’Ivoire
Age: 25Position: LW
From: BurnleyTo: West Ham

Ivorian winger, Maxwel Cornet escaped the depths of the Championship to join West Ham United. Capable of playing as a winger, as a Left Back and of course, anything between the two, Cornet will offer a lot of flexibility to Moyes’ side.

To conclude things, lets take a look at the top transfers from outside the top 5 leagues.

David Neres

Price: €15milNationality: Brazilian
Age: 25Position: RW
From: ShakhtarTo: Benfica

Former Ajax winger, David Neres, joined Benfica after only 6 months in Ukraine. The tricky, left footed winger is still only 25 years old and will be looking to make an impact in the Portuguege league.

David Carmo

Price: €20milNationality: Cote d’Ivoire
Age: 23Position: CB
From: SC BragaTo: FC Porto

For a huge transfer in Liga Portugal, David Carmo joins FC Porto. Standing at 1.96 meters, Carmo joins a talented line-up, which suffered a lot of losses this summer.

Jeremiah St. Juste

Price: €10milNationality: Netherlands
Age: 25Position: CB
From: FSV MainzTo: Sporting CP

Not to be overtaken by their rivals, Sporting CP has also made a marquee signing in Dutch defender, Jeremiah St. Juste. Well known for his pace, Juste moved clubs for only 9.5mil, however he is sure to be vital in Sporting’s title charge.

Steven Bergwijn

Price: €31milNationality: Netherlands
Age: 24Position: LW
From: TottenhamTo: Ajax

Moving on to Eredivisie, Ajax sold half of their team this summer, but they did take the time to make some improvements to their squad as well. After spending two unsuccessful seasons at Tottenham, Bergwijn returns to the Dutch league, for a whopping 31mil. His impact is undeniable, as he has scored 6 in only 5 apps so far.

Calvin Bassey

Price: €23milNationality: Nigeria
Age: 22Position: CB
From: RangersTo: Ajax

Young Centre Back, Bassey moved to Ajax from Rangers for over 20 million. Former Leicester U21 player, with an English passport as well, he decided to play for the Nigerian national team. Being tasked with replacing Lisandro Martinez sounds like a hard one!
