Serie A is back after the World Cup hiatus and interestingly every match was played on the same day, the 4th of January. No more unbeaten teams in the top 5 European leagues!
Note: We have made a mistake in our Ligue 1 matchday roundup, we said there are no more unbeaten teams in the top 5 leagues, due to PSG losing, however Napoli was still unbeaten at the time.

AC Milan opened the round with an early midday fixture, as they visited Salernitana. They managed to get the job done, thanks to goals from Leao and Tonali, even though Salernitana did give them a late scare. Mourinho’s AS Roma managed to grab another 3 points, same with Juventus. Other frontrunners, Atalanta and Lazio were not so lucky, as they dropped points. The highlight of the day was Inter versus Napoli and the Spalletti’s crew lost their first match of the season. It was Bosnian Striker Dzeko who put the nail to their impressive run.

Napoli is still top of the table, with a nice advantage too, however their first loss does complicate things. AC Milan are 5 points off the leaders, while Juventus are a further 2 points behind. This win moves Inter to 4th, on 33 points. Lazio and Roma are both on 30, while Atalanta slipped to 7th. Verona are last with only 6 points from 16 matches, right behind Cremonese. Sampdoria are 18 with 9 points.
